We’re looking for a Research Accountant to join our team to take the lead on the financial accounting and reporting of the University’s research activities. You’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate financial management, compliance, and insightful reporting, while also acting as a trusted business partner to Research Institutes and Core Research Facilities.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monthly accounting of research costs and preparing quarterly/annual accounts
  • Providing research income and overhead estimates for departmental planning purposes
  • Offering advice to financial and non-financial stakeholders, building strong working relationships
  • Maintaining detailed reports, supporting external returns (e.g. HESA), and ensuring accuracy of data
  • Acting as Finance Business Partner for Research Institutes and Core Research Facilities, supporting budget planning, financial monitoring and overhead calculations

The role sits within the Management Information Section (MIS) team. We provide financial support to Academic and Professional Services departments, with responsibility for planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting.

The department is based in the Virgil Building in the centre of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and there will be a requirement to work on the main campus at times, however, hybrid working is one of the many ways we recognise the importance of achieving a positive work life balance. Whilst the exact days you can work remotely will differ between teams and departments, it should provide you with greater flexibility, provided you are in the UK. What we’re looking for:

  • A qualified accountant with experience or an interest in the Higher Education sector and how universities are funded.

About you

Role

The Head of Legal Services leads the delivery of legal guidance across the University’s academic and commercial operations. The role includes ensuring legal compliance, managing risk, and leading all aspects of the legal and Freedom of Information teams. Responsibilities include tracking legislative changes, briefing leadership, and handling legal matters with discretion. The position reports to the Director of Legal, Governance & Compliance and includes managing relationships with external legal counsel. As the Private Accommodation Support Advisor, you will manage and maintain the Private Housing database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of landlords and properties. You’ll provide tailored advice to our resident students seeking private accommodation , including those with complex needs, and serve as the primary point of contact for landlords, supporting them with reference requests.

Leading the development of our private support advice services, you will continuously improve the experience for both students and landlords. You’ll coordinate Housing Forums and House-Hunting events in collaboration with the Students’ Union, and stay informed of changes in housing legislation and policy to ensure our service remains compliant and effective.

The role also requires responding to enquiries via email, phone, and face-to-face, escalating issues when necessary. You’ll build and maintain strong relationships with key local stakeholders including BANES, PBSA providers, and the National Residential Landlords Association, and work closely with the Student Community Partnership to promote positive student-community relations across 51³Ô¹ÏÍø.

About you:

  • The post holder will have strong knowledge of housing issues and relevant legislation, particularly in the private rented sector.
  • Experience working with students or young people, ideally in a higher education or support setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with a range of stakeholders.
  • A high level of organisation and attention to detail, with experience managing databases and sensitive records in line with data protection regulations.

<![CDATA[HPC Cloud Engineer (ML12931)]]> /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ML12931 /jobs/rss/click.aspx?ref=ML12931 The HPC Cloud Engineer will be a part of the Research and Computing team, responsible for the development and maintenance of the University's High-Performance Computing (HPC) services and Research Storage services, applying technical expertise to resolve complex problems, support an active and growing user community, generate innovative ideas and enhance the delivery of the HPC and storage services. 

Ensure systems change management is carried out in accordance with agreed standards and procedures, creating and managing software test and development environments. You will therefore design, script, code, test and document the deployment and development of Open Source commercial and custom software using agreed standards and tools to achieve well-engineered bespoke systems, especially when linking existing systems or providing novel interfaces to existing data. 

You will provide advice and assistance on service and component availability, employ through-life planning models to ensure systems meet business needs and inform customers of supplier product developments and upgrades, advising on implementation. You till developing implementation plans for complex requests for change, evaluating risks to infrastructure integrity and reviewing effectiveness of change implementation. 

Provide and maintain stable HPC and research storage services, ensuring maximum operation of service, alongside providing technical support to the active community of Research Computing users. This would be through technical knowledge transfer, assisting them with utilising the resources, debugging and optimisation, through innovative solutions that enrich and enhance user experience and service delivery. 

Supporting outreach activities to enable exploitation of cloud research services by a broader user-base, represent the University within the HPC community through regional and national HPC centres and the HPC Specialist Interest Group, undertake research into suppliers, markets and product and service categories and overall be a trusted advisor and advocate between IT and key University stakeholders. 

About you

  • Detailed knowledge and experience of administering Linux servers and a working knowledge of Windows operating system.
  • Familiar with HPC technologies, including provisioning, job schedulers and low-latency interconnects.
  • Experience with HPC Job Schedulers such as SLURM, PBS and IBM LSF. 
  • Knowledge and experience in using one or more scripting languages, such as Bash, Python and SQL.
  • Experience with any cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS and GCP. 
  • Understanding of parallel programming methodologies.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of training courses.

Additional information

  • This role includes a market supplement of £12,000 in addition to the base salary scale. The total salary range displayed above reflects the base salary plus market supplement.

We are seeking an experienced admissions manager, widening access or student support professional for this key management role within our Undergraduate Admissions Team.

  • Play a lead role in the team's work to support our Access and Participation Plan, a key strategic commitment for the University

We are seeking a proactive, organised, and service-focused Campus Experience and Switchboard Coordinator to lead and manage reception and switchboard operations across our student and commercial campus accommodation receptions.

This is a pivotal role within the Campus Services team, responsible for ensuring a welcoming and professional front-of-house experience for students, guests, and visitors throughout the year. You will oversee the recruitment, training, and performance of both permanent and casual reception staff, manage key service processes, and play an active role in enhancing the overall student and guest experience.

The role also includes responsibility for the University Switchboard, ensuring enquiries are handled promptly and professionally and internal systems are kept accurate and up to date.

About you:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of student and commercial reception services across both Campus Hubs.
  • Recruit, train, and manage Reception Assistants and Supervisors, maintaining rota coverage and service consistency.
  • Manage enquiry handling systems (including shared inboxes), ensuring timely, effective responses and issue resolution.
  • Oversee check-in/out processes for students and guests, maintain accurate records in bedstock systems (e.g., Kx or Opera).
  • Support group and guest bookings during the summer period, coordinating with the Campus Experience Team Leader.
  • Manage the University Switchboard service (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm), ensuring accuracy of contact information and professional communication.
  • Collaborate with ResLife, Campus Infrastructure, and wider University teams to deliver a cohesive experience for all service users.
  • Maintain front-of-house procedures, digital content accuracy, and compliance with the UUK Code of Practice.

This role is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis, with weekend working required on a rotational basis in accordance with a 5 out of 7 day schedule.

The Procurement Assistant will provide support to the IT Procurement team in the provision of a professional, effective and knowledgeable service for the procurement and supply of IT hardware and software for the University’s staff and students.

The role will provide accurate, timely and auditable assistance in the administration of the hardware and software procurement processes compliant with University Financial Regulations.

Procurement Support:

  • Raise requisitions and purchase orders ensuring purchasing is carried out in accordance with the University’s purchasing policy and guidelines and UK legislation.
  • Check validity of requests to purchase.
  • Resolve or refer non-compliant requests as appropriate.  
  • Investigate queries and discrepancies with requisitions, receipts, orders and invoices escalating as required.
  • Check that deliveries are complete, record Goods Received, and process returns to vendors.
  • Ensure that all orders are charged back at correct values and quantities, making required amendments.
  • Use the University’s Purchase to Pay system.
  • Use the Departmental purchasing card and ensure accurate records are kept of expenditure.

General ITP Administration support:

  • Receive and distribute post and couriered deliveries.
  • Receive goods through the University finance system and pass on invoices to the Payments Office.
  • Assist in liaising with suppliers to research, source and procure goods and services.
  • Ensure purchasing is conducted in accordance with the University’s purchasing policy and guidelines.
  • Assist the Central Office Finance team with DDaT’s financial processes 
  • Raise requisitions for internal and external goods and services through Agresso.

About the role

Taking ownership of a portfolio of courses you will provide an outstanding experience for our applicants throughout their application process. Assessing UCAS applications you will make and apply offers or unsuccessful decisions for these applicants in a fair, consistent, and transparent way. You will also be checking decisions made by other members of the team and assessing the fee status of applicants.

Strong organisation and prioritisation skills are essential to working in our fast-paced environment. You will also occasionally be involved in representing the Admissions Team and the University as part of student recruitment activities, including occasional attendance at recruitment fairs.

About you

With a background in administration and customer service, you will enjoy working in a dynamic environment where a high level of accuracy is key. Ideally, you will have worked within higher education admissions, however, if you have other relevant experience please apply. You will also have:

  • a high standard of IT and administrative skills including the use of email and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc)
  • excellent attention to detail
  • an ability to stay calm and work efficiently and accurately under pressure

This role is responsible for delivering high-quality finance business partnering, budgeting, forecasting, and management accounting services across the University’s academic, professional services, and research support functions. 

You will work closely with colleagues across wider University and the Finance department to provide insightful financial support, drive process improvements, and influence decision-making at senior levels.  

As the University transitions to a cloud-based accounting system, you will play a key role in guiding the team through changes to financial processes, systems, and reporting; working collaboratively with the programme team to support a smooth and effective implementation. 

In addition to these core responsibilities, you will contribute to strategic projects and support the development of new initiatives and practices in response to both internal priorities and external developments. 

This position benefits from a hybrid working pattern. You'll be based at the Virgil Building in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s city centre with the option to work from home up to 3 days per week, with flexibility around on-campus meetings and other role requirements. The team operates flexibly, with regular meetings held both at the Virgil Building and the University’s Claverton Down campus. 

A market supplement of £5,000 applies to this role and is paid in addition to the standard pay scale, giving a total salary range of £63,255 to £72,468 as shown above.

About you 

You will be a qualified accountant with: 

  • Significant post-qualification experience in financial leadership roles, ideally within complex organisations 
  • A strong track record of leading finance business partnering teams and delivering strategic financial support 
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships with senior stakeholders and influence decision-making 
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using Power BI and financial reporting tools 
  • Technical proficiency in management accounting, budgeting, and forecasting, with the ability to communicate financial implications clearly to non-financial audiences

This is a four-year Advanced Apprenticeship. 

While working at the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, the successful applicant will receive support for a formal Level 4 or Level 6 day-release training course, depending on their qualifications and experience. 

Additional training, including but not limited to Aruba and Cisco networking certifications, may also be provided.

Working within the Networking team, the post-holder will work in Digital Data and Technology group (DDaT) supporting the Wi-Fi and networking for all areas of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, including our on and off Campus residential buildings. 

Providing 1st line technical support for IT services and systems at the University. The post-holder will contribute to support processes, involved in maintenance of current systems, resolving problems, documentation and improving service levels.

During your four year apprenticeship there will be an opportunity to gain experience working in different areas of IT, spending time in other teams within DDaT. 

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about technology and will be able to show how they have put that interest to practical use in their life.

The Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change is a Research Institute that integrates physical, social and systems sciences at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø and develops leaders in tackling critical sustainability issues. The Institute aims to deliver novel chemical technologies and robust behavioural solutions, brought together through whole system evaluation to reframe problems and create transformative innovation in sustainability and climate change. The Institute currently involves around 80 academics, a cohort of 70 PhD students, and a research income of more than £25M. 

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Coordinator who will be responsible for shaping the Institute’s communications and engagement strategy and devising and implementing communication plans.

This will entail enhancing how the Institute’s research and other initiatives are presented externally, as well as delivering a wide range of communications and engagement activities that will help to inform, inspire, involve and influence our external and internal audiences. 

You will work closely with the Institute’s Manager, Operations Director and Academic Directors, liaise with Institute members and communicate effectively with a diverse range of external and internal stakeholders to create new content on sustainability and climate change research. 

The role involves providing dedicated support in digital technologies for research and communications for the Institute’s community, including staff, students, and external partners. This includes the “outward facing” aspects of this large Institute, for example, web and social media presence, press releases and liaison with academic, industrial, policy and public communities. 

About you:

This is a very dynamic role where the ability to work with people from different backgrounds as well as build strong interpersonal relationships is key. We are looking for the post holder to possess the following skills:

  • Highly creative and able to produce high quality communications via multiple media, as well as hold an interest in climate change or sustainable issues.

About you

You will

  • have experience of working in a busy office environment where excellent communication skills are essential

In addition, your strong organisational and administrative skills will allow you to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines.
